James invited me to guest post for him, I was keen to write a post not too far
from my skincare roots of Pampered Prince, yet still be
interesting and useful for his makeup enthusiast readers. So, I’m going to
share with you some skincare solutions for some of the most common complexion
concerns we like to cover up. Making your makeup look even better AND
making Andrew’s job as a makeup artist, just that little bit easier.
= Under eye / light reflecting concealer
for some dark circles are a permanent feature, caused by pigmentation
irregularities and are generally heredity, although sun exposure can also play
a factor. However anyone can suffer from darkness under the eyes from time to
time, whether it’s through not enough sleep or a poor diet of too much salt and
lacking in vitamins K & B12.
a good nights sleep and accessed your diet, I would recommend using an eye
cream with brightening properties such as Eysilix, which contains
skin brightening peptides.
Foundation not lasting the day
solution = Hyaluronic Acid
is dehydrated (lacking in water), it becomes thirsty, resulting in our skin
absorbing products more quickly. If you find yourself asking where your
foundation has disappeared to towards midday, chances are your skin has
absorbed it, while it attempts to take in vital moisture.
using a Hyaluronic Acid Serum, such as Hydraluron or Bravura London Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Hyaluronic Acid holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water and
helps the skin to retain it where it needs it most.
Uneven or rough skin
solution = AHA’s and / or mechanical exfoliator
from uneven / rough skin and find your foundation doesn’t look as smooth as it
could, then you can use a primer to smooth out the appearance of the
skin in the first instance AND also use exfoliators to actually smooth
out the skin.
exfoliators such as AHA’s like Glycolic acid, that work by dissolving the
bonds that hold dead skin cells together. It could also be mechanical
exfoliators such as skin polishes and scrubs. You could use a combination of
the two, although never on the same days, to avoid irritation.
London for Glycolic acid treatment, although start with a low percentage if
you’re new to this type of exfoliation and something like Elemis Gentle Rose
Exfoliator if you prefer a scrub type exfoliator.
solution = BHA’s
spots are caused when a pore becomes blocked. The best way to prevent the spot
from occurring is by keeping your pores clear in the first place. Thorough
cleansing is always the foundation of clear skin but if that isn’t enough, then
Salicylic Acid is a wonderful ingredient when extra help is needed. Similar to
AHA’s, it works by breaking down the bonds that hold dead skin cells together,
except Salicylic is much more effective at breaking down oil and can penetrate
deeper into the pore, clearing the blockage.
Salicylic Acid Peel from Bravura London OR Super Facialist Pore
solution = Mattifying lotion & Oil blotting sheets.
have oily / combination skin or suffer from seborrhoea, a condition causing
overactive sebaceous glands, you may suffer from excess shine. Over use of
powders during the day can build up and leave the skin looking dry.
applying a mattifying lotion prior to applying your makeup, such as Super
Facialist Mattifying Lotion (which also contains salicylic acid, so also
good for blocked pores) and carry a set of oil absorbing sheets such as Kleenex
Shine Absorbing Sheets. Hyaluronic Acid is also great for excess shine, as the
skin often creates more oil if it’s dehydrated.
