Lately ive been really into skincare and trying new things, so when i had the chance to try out The Ordinary i just had to do it! As always im quite late on this bandwagon but from what ive tried i’ve liked.
I wanted to talk about the Lactic Acid that The Ordinary does. If you haven’t heard of The Ordinary before they are a company that gives you no bullshit, you know what you are getting. The products are all high quality for affordable prices making skincare accessible to those who want things they may not be able to afford otherwise. I love The Ordinary and Deciem the parent brand for the simple reason of scientific research, their slogan is “Clinical Formulations with Integrity.” which i think sums up the brand really well!
Lactic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) which will help to increase skin cell turnover on the surface of the skin to help with correcting uneven tone, textural irregularities and fine lines. I really like using Lactic Acid as the molecule is bigger so it doesn’t penetrate as deep as say Glycolic Acid which is quite a small molecule so this means that Lactic Acid is a lot more gentle on the skin.
I chose 5% Lactic Acid as i didnt want to start with 10% as i feel like i wanted my skin to get used to it before using the higher strength. I have been using it for a while now about a month and ive found that my skin does look a lot more even as well as theres not that much textural irregularities either which is a big problem for me as it happens a lot on my nose.
The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% is a great place to start if you want to introduce an acid to your skincare routine
I usually apply this after i have cleansed by skin in the PM, ill spray a little of NIOD SDSM2 wait for that to sink in then apply the Lactic Acid and let that sink in. You will find that it does tingle a little for me when i used it for the first time if im honest i did sting a little but as my skin got more and more used to it i didnt notice or feel it as much anymore. I will always make sure to use a hydrating serum/moisturiser after this as it can leave your skin a little dry. I will only use this around once a every 4/5 days as i dont want to get to sensitive and irritated by it.
The Ordinary Lactic Acid is a great way to introduce an acid to your skincare routine as it can help with not only exfoliation but to change the look of your skin. As this form of Lactic Acid is quite a low strength it will take a little while to work where as you have something like the Sunday Riley Good Genes which is around 40% im sure so you can tell the changes with that pretty quickly. I know a lot of people like to compare this to Good Genes but after using this for around a month i dont really feel like they are the same for one they have completely different ingredients aside from the Lactic Acid, I would go as far to say that Good Genes is a more comprehensive treatment whereas The Lactic Acid from The Ordinary is a basic form, dont take that as its not good because as you can see its fantastic!
